Norman Hanson DeTroy firmly believes in the constitutional mandate that every client is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We are proud of our long tradition of defending those accused of crimes and assisting clients who find themselves in unexpected and challenging situations. Our team of criminal defense counsel has an intimate knowledge of constitutional law and the state and federal criminal statutes. We also have the experience to deal and negotiate with prosecutors credibly and effectively, but if that fails, then we put our top-notch trial skills to work in your defense.
We handle all types of criminal cases, from routine motor vehicle charges such as OUI, to assaults and homicides, to complex, so-called “white collar” crimes. A number of our attorneys have become widely recognized as some of Maine’s foremost criminal defense attorneys, handling murder trials involving complex forensic issues and technical psychological testimony about the insanity defense. One of our attorneys formerly worked as a drug prosecutor for the Maine Attorney General’s office, as well as a war crimes prosecutor for the International War Crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Another of our attorneys has worked with the Maine Governor’s office for years advocating for petitions for executive clemency — more commonly known as “pardons.”
Our criminal practice extends to every state and federal courthouse in Maine. Our clients get realistic advice at every stage of the proceedings based on the combined decades of experience of our criminal defense team.
